Patt's Perspective

September 15, 2017

“I consider my life worth nothing to me,

if only I may finish the race and complete

the task the Lord Jesus Christ has given me —

the task of testifying to the gospel of God’s grace.”

Acts 20:24

The Gospel of God’s Grace

Dear Friends and Partners of JLPF,

It has been quite some time since you last heard from me. Since J.L. died, the most common thing I am asked is, “How are you doing?” It’s a fair question.  Some days are wonderful and I feel completely sustained by the Holy Spirit.  Then there are days when something happens – like I hear a worship song we both loved, or I eat a food we enjoyed…or maybe nothing at all – and my emotional feet are knocked out from under me. So, if I ever hesitate in my response to your question, it may be because I’m having a rough time. Please know I am grateful that you asked and I am thankful for your prayers. As each month passes, the grieving lessens just a little bit more.

We are still on track to close out JL, Patt and Friends by the end of this year, and will send you more information in a month or so, and include some of my future plans. However, just because JLPF is stopping, does not mean our partners are stopping. They continue to be productive and are deeply involved in doing the Lord’s work in their countries. I am still in contact with each of them, and they send me reports on how the Lord is blessing them.

When I read the above verse this week, I thought it described J.L. so well. He was fearless in preaching, teaching and demonstrating the grace of God in so many ways. And as he did, he built eternal relationships with partners around the world. Many became his best friends. He did as Paul instructed Timothy, “…be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others.”  (2 Timothy 2:1-2)

In the weeks to come, I want you to see most of his/our partners and what they are doing now. This email will highlight 3 of our partners from 3 different countries. The Lord is bringing forth a fruitful harvest of souls through their evangelism and discipleship efforts, bringing Him all the glory.

Pastor Yaw Asante with J.L.

The first partner is Yaw Asante from Kumasi, Ghana. He is a very gifted evangelist who travels throughout Ghana, especially in the Muslim north, to not only bring men and women to Christ, but also to disciple many as they grow in the faith. He also has a passion to help Christian leaders become bi-vocational so they won’t have to depend on outside money.  Please click here for his latest report, and visit his website: www.stfoundationghana.com for further information on his ministry, Standing Together.

J. L. and Rev. Soia

Rev. Chinkhosoi is the partner we’ve always called Soia. You will see from the report that we have known him since he was in Bible school. Soia lives in Manipur, India, and ministers wherever the Lord leads him among the various tribal groups. One of his goals is to provide every new Christian with a Bible in the tribal dialect. You may click here to read a report that summarizes our partnership with Rev. Soia from the beginning until now.

Pastor Simon Mkolo and J. L.

Godfrey Mkolo and Herbert Makwala

The final partner is Pastor Simon Mkolo from Hwange, Zimbabwe, and the two men who work with him, Herbert Makwala and Pastor Simon’s son, Godfrey. J.L. wanted to help with some unfinished projects to complete the Conference Center that Pastor Simon uses for his district meetings and conferences. The board and I have done our best to fulfill J.L.’s desire. Pastor Simon is an evangelist and an overseer with a clear vision to reach and disciple everyone in the surrounding districts. Herbert and Godfrey helped facilitate the completion of the vision for the conference center and continue to help pastors and their needy congregants.  Please click here to see the various aspects of Pastor Simon’s wholistic approach to ministry.

Thank you for taking the time to read each of these reports.  Please pray that the Lord will continue to establish the works of their hands, and join me in rejoicing over our long-term partners who are testifying to the gospel of God’s grace!

By the grace of God,
