Dear ND Friends & Alumni,
Patt and I received the shocking news today that Herbie went to Heaven early this morning, suffering an apparent massive heart attack. While we do not yet know all of the medical details, we are certain of the spiritual details: “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord – at whose right hand is pleasure forevermore” (II Cor. 5:6-9; Ps. 16:11). One thing is for sure: Herbie has never been more alive…his smile has never been bigger…his laughter never louder…His praise never more ecstatic – and his "dancing in the Spirit" never more enthusiastic!
Herbie is no longer a cripple bound to a wheel chair or walker. Like the cripple whom the Lord Jesus healed through Peter in Acts 3, Herbie is now walking…jumping…running…dancing all over heaven! And we can just imagine that his first song as he entered the pearly gates was: “I feel good, good, good. I feel GOOD, oh my Lord!”
You can be confident that “Herbie has never felt better in his life!” He now knows by sight what the rest of us still only know by faith.
Not too long ago, Herbie discussed his funeral arrangements with Woody Lamm, who will be officiating at the service. Herbie asked me to speak if I was in the country – which I am, and some of the ND alumni will sing. If you can’t make the service, please be with us in spirit, as we celebrate a life well lived for God’s glory and the good of others.
“TILL WE SING AGAIN WITH HERBIE IN THE HEAVENLY CHOIR,”
JL & PATT
