JL's Journal

All the way my Saviour leads me; What have I to ask beside?

Can I doubt His tender mercy Who through life has been my Guide?

Heavenly peace, divinest comfort, Here by faith in Him to dwell!

For I know, what-e’er befall me, Jesus doeth all things well;

For I know, what-e’er befall me, Jesus doeth all things well.

(Words by Fanny Crosby; a hymn from my childhood)

Dear Friends,

   The continued outpouring of love and support for my family and me has been overwhelming and comforting. We are very grateful for your calls, hugs, cards, emails, offers to help and on-going prayers. It is a blessing to be a part of the loving body of Christ.

   Grief is a different kind of journey. For me, life is all mixed together, like the sweet presence of our great Comforter, in the midst of the sadness and longing for J.L. Each morning I awaken to the challenge of accepting the reality that he is gone. And each evening I can trace God’s guiding Holy Spirit throughout every part of my day.

   Although my life, our lives, will never be the same, life goes on. The sun, moon and stars continue in their assigned orbits. The beautiful dogwoods, redbuds and azaleas still blossom as a testimony to God’s creativity and desire to bless us.  So, it is my eventual goal, as it was J.L.’s, not to just get by somehow until the Lord returns or calls me home, but to live triumphantly for His glory and finish well.

   Part of that is appreciating the joyful events that family and friends enjoy together. Since J.L.’s death 3 months ago, six of our grandchildren have celebrated birthdays: Rebekah, Abigail, Luke, Owen, Emma, and Matthew. Here is a picture of me with the 7 who live in Alamance County when we enjoyed a combined party for Emma and Matthew. Left to right, they are: Emma holding Joy Yael, Nathan, Abigail, Luke, Matthew and Owen.

   Adding to these joyful events will be the Packathons to be held in the next 5 months in memory of J.L. I hope that many of you will be able to attend and be a part of this worthwhile – and fun – event! As I may have mentioned earlier, J.L. and I have had an on-going desire to help ISIS victims since we spent time among some of them in Ammon, Jordan, 2 years ago this Easter. Please look at the link below and sign up for one of the packing events close to you. I will be at each one and hope to see you there!

   In closing, I thank you in advance for your prayers for the Holy Land trip, April 7-16. I am looking forward to being back in Israel and meeting some of our old friends, even though I will miss J.L. a lot. Thanks too for your prayers as the board and I work on finishing J.L.’s projects and getting his partners relocated to other non-profits. We are about halfway there already!

Gratefully, in Christ,
