All the way my Saviour leads me; What have I to ask beside?

Can I doubt His tender mercy Who through life has been my Guide?

Heavenly peace, divinest comfort, Here by faith in Him to dwell!

For I know, what-e’er befall me, Jesus doeth all things well;

For I know, what-e’er befall me, Jesus doeth all things well.

(Words by Fanny Crosby; a hymn from my childhood)

Dear Friends,

   The continued outpouring of love and support for my family and me has been overwhelming and comforting. We are very grateful for your calls, hugs, cards, emails, offers to help and on-going prayers. It is a blessing to be a part of the loving body of Christ.

   Grief is a different kind of journey. For me, life is all mixed together, like the sweet presence of our great Comforter, in the midst of the sadness and longing for J.L. Each morning I awaken to the challenge of accepting the reality that he is gone. And each evening I can trace God’s guiding Holy Spirit throughout every part of my day.

"The righteous will flourish like a palm tree,
they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon;
planted in the house of the Lord,
they will flourish in the courts of our God.
They will still bear fruit in old age,
they will stay fresh and green..."
(Psalm 92:12-14)

J. L. pray for a fruitful harvest in the ECI garden
outside Chennai.

Dear Friends and Partners,

   Although I know I don’t have to apologize for this short email report, it still seems strange to send one that’s so different from J.L.’s – the master of a few thousand well-chosen words with an equal amount of pictures! But, it will be better for me to send shorter ones as we get reports from our overseas partners.

Dear Friends and Partners,

   We want to continue to share with you about more projects that J.L. had set in motion late last year. This completed project was done in partnership with Evangelist Yaw Asante, from Kumasi, Ghana, whom we have reported on before. He and J.L. first met in 1983 at the Billy Graham Conference for Itinerate Evangelists in Amsterdam. Over the years, they ministered together in pastors’ conferences and seminars, self-support and building projects, and agricultural endeavors.

Our last picture together on December 26, 2016.

Dear Friends and Partners,

   Greetings to you all in the name of Jesus Christ. As we continue to trust the Lord to sustain us after J.L.’s death, we are finding comfort in God’s Word, especially 2 Corinthians 12:9, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is made perfect in weakness.”

Dear Friends,

   As most of you may know, my dearest J.L. suddenly went to be with the Lord on December 28th. Our family is still struggling to believe that he is really no longer with us. But, we share the hope in knowing we will see him again and that he now beholds Jesus face to face.

   Here is the last email blast he was preparing the morning he died. As usual, he left the house to do his cardiac rehab program and I stayed at home, as was also usual, to help with editing different writings of his. But, I was specifically getting this report ready for Jane to send out later that Wednesday.

   You will hear his passion for the children’s programs as you read his words and see all the pictures. (He often laughed and said that Jesus gave two great commissions. One was to go into all the world and preach the Gospel, and the other was to go into all the world and take pictures of God’s work!)

   Many people are asking what will become of JL, Patt & Friends now that J.L. is gone. The JLPF board of directors is meeting to discuss this very concern. You will be hearing directly from them and me in the weeks ahead as we transition from J.L.’s leadership to mine and the board’s.

   Enjoy J.L.’s last report – even imagine hearing him, with his “outside voice” and his enthusiasm and excitement, as he reports on the great things going on with the children!

So very grateful for your continued prayers!

Patt, for our family, staff and board, and our national partners

Deuteronomy 31:8, God’s precious promise to me and us.
