Partner: Allan Knowles
Allan Knowles was born into a family where his mother and father were parents to ten (10) children.
Allan lived in what the apartheid government termed as a designated Cape Town Colored Township. Steenberg was in a sub-economic setting and crime was endemic. The Knowles family eeked out a living and the children received basic education at State supported schools - albeit not the best in Cape Town, where the Children achieved grades that enabled them to pass.
Church attendance was a family must and his family were regular congregation members at the Baptist Church.
It was here, too, that Allan began to hear about the Lord Jesus Christ and the importance of the Bible as the Word of God.
Life was not all education and church, however as Allan became passionate about football (soccer) and wanted to spend his time working his way up the ladder into League matches.
As a teenager, some 30 years ago, Jesus Christ laid his hand on Allan and he was brought into a saving relationship with the Lord. One of the results of his conversion was an immediate desire to preach and the only pulpits open to him were the sandy, wind-swept streets of the Steenberg Township.
Without any technical equipment or basic training, the young teenager began to share the Gospel in open air meetings, and his thirst for knowing the precious Word of God became a deep desire.
The Lord had further plans for Allan. He attended an interdenominational, evangelical Bible College in Cape Town. While at Bible College, the wise counsel and inspired teaching of the lecturers fed the seed that the Lord had planted within his soul - his desire to preach and teach the Word of God became stronger. He listened carefully to the advice of the seasoned teachers of the Scriptures and began to mature in the love of the Lord Jesus Christ.
After graduation he spent time working with an interdenominational evangelical organization in Cape Town. There were many whom the Lord called to salvation through his Bible-centered ministry.
However, God’s call was to have a wider consequence on his life and ministry. His deep longing and desire that the un-evangelized, and the more deprived of South Africa’s people should hear the Gospel and be taught the Bible, meant that he was to launch out from an Itinerant Ministry Into a new field of pioneering the training of Church leaders, where Bible School training is not accessible. (Ephesians 4:12)
