After the Conference was concluded, we were met by NDI Board Member, Len VanWingerden and his wife Elaine. Under their supervision we refocused our efforts “From preaching to plowing and planting!” It was great to have several days to get “down and dirty” for the Lord Jesus and help develop further the Mfensi Conference Center. The following pictures will give you a little idea of the fun we had “building and beautifying.” And this Center would be a great place for your church, youth group or mission team to go for a week of “hands-on” ministry! Just contact our office for more details…
In His Healing Love,

Len rented a bulldozer and front-end loader to remove trees, stumps and level the area.
Some of the stumps were massive and took a lot of power to uproot.
Most of the heavy equipment overseas is in poor shape—so Len had to do some welding to keep the trees, stumps and dirt moving.
Len harrows and levels after the dozer has done its job.
I even got to drive the tractor—which I did a lot of in my earlier years!
My sister, Judy Baer, helped with the landscaping.
Patt also did some landscaping—which she loves to do.
Our team was guided by Bernard in the landscaping and potting of plants.
Our wonderful little Ghanaian helper in transplanting some banana trees.
Elaine VanWingerden teaches Ruth how to use a new sewing machine we took over.
Ruth sews her very first pillow case for the Center.
The women in our work team who did a lot of “sweating for Jesus”.
Len supervises the laying of new pipe for a new large drip irrigation garden.
A lot of ditches had to be dug and a lot of water pipe glued.
The newly renovated and landscaped Women’s Dorm.
The newly completed Restaurant and Dinning Hall for the Center.
The newly expanded and renovated Chapel that will seat over 300.
The new Garden Center for the marketing of fresh vegetables from the Farm.
Len VanWingerden and Yaw Asante at the new “Double Harvest Ghana” Farm project.

Dear NDI Partner,
Patt and I have just returned from 3 diverse and intense weeks of travel and ministry in Africa—this time in Ghana, Ethiopia, Sudan and Kenya. Each day was full of challenges and opportunities from sunrise to sunset—so much so that there is no way I can report on 3 weeks of ministry in 4 countries in one email or blog! So this is “Part I” of a series that I will post on my personal blog for the next week or so (www.jlwilliams.net). Each day will be a new entry from my “Mission Journal” from the trip—and primarily consist of pictures and captions. I hope you will take a few moments to relive this trip with Patt and me since you made it possible through your prayers and partnership.
In His Love,

The theme of the Conference was “Fulfilling Your Ministry”.
Evangelist Yaw Asante has been an NDI partner for some 30 years, and the Conference was held at the retreat center we have been developing with him for the past 20 years.
Pastor Ransford Obeng was the Dean of this Conference. His pastors the largest church in Kumasi of some 5,000 people—the CCC, or Calvary Charismatic Center.
It is always a joy to teach key national pastors, leaders, missionaries and evangelists. Some 230 attended this Conference from all over Ghana—especially the north which is dominated by Islam.
My associate, Rev. Matt Smith, did an excellent teaching series on “Digging Into The Word.” He is a blessing to have on our mission teaching team.
Along with my sister, Judy Baer, Patt had special teaching sessions each day for the women—translated by Mercy Asante, Yaw’s wife.
There was always an hour of worship and singing before each teaching session.
I am always challenged and blessed by the passion of the worship in African churches—something the Western Church can learn from.
The men and women we had the privilege of investing our lives in for 5 days.
Yaw Asante, Judy Baer, Patt & JL and NDI Associate, Rev. Matt Smith after the flag-raising ceremony.

Six years after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, is the gap between Islam and Christianity getting wider? New Directions International’s Founder and Chief Ministry Officer speaks to this issue and more in his DVD Series, “A Christian Perspective on Islam.”
“They cannot if they are true to their theology, and they will not stop until they have extended the Islamic crescent over the entirety of the world,” says Dr. Williams. “But at the same time, if we are honest, we have to realize as Christians we are under an equal mandate.”
The greatest threat to Christianity is Islam, but the greatest threat to Islam is Christianity. Contrary to what many people think, the conflict between Christianity and Islam did not begin with the horrific events of 9/11. It goes back far earlier in history.
In this series Dr. J.L. Williams explores the myths and truths about one of the worlds fastest growing religions, as he gives us a Christian perspective on Islam.
