A New Church in a Week

So we rebuilt the wall…for the people worked with all their heart.” - (Neh. 4:6)

Dear NDI Friend & Partner,

Once again NDI Board Member, Coy Tillett and the “Manteo Miracle Men” completed building an entire 40’ X 60’ church in one week flat!  Just 7 days from start to finish!  From laying out the foundation on “Day 1” to the dedication service on “Day 7,” they completed the entire project in record time.  Just like Nehemiah and his team, these men “…completed the work…with the help of our God” (Neh. 6:15-16).  And we walked away with lights burning and the fans turning – and all the people rejoicing! This was containerized “church #6” and it was built for the Haitian Diaspora in Freeport, Bahamas.

Living and Giving Like the Macedonian Christians

“And now, brothers, we want you to know about the grace that God has given the Macedonian churches.  Out of their most severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity.  For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability.  Entirely on their own, they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the saints.  And they did not do as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then to us in keeping with God’s will” (II Cor. 8:1-6).

Dear NDI Partner,

Many of you, like me, watched the last Presidential Debate between Senators McCain and Obama.  It was obviously their most pointed and poignant debate.  Many issues of paramount concern to Christians were more clearly stated by them than ever – especially concerning abortion, freedom of choice, stem cell research, Supreme Court appointees, taxes, race, etc.  The differences in their positions could not have been more clearly articulated.  Now it is in our power as citizens to “vote our conscience” in this crucial election – which will probably be the most important in our lifetime.

Haiti Relief Report

“I was hungry and you gave Me something to eat” - (Matt. 25:35)

Dear NDI Partner,

A friend of mine said to me this week: “J.L., once the doctors and Patt gave you back your ‘flying wings,’ you have not landed yet!”  That’s pretty true—and I am profoundly thankful to be back on the ‘cutting edge’ where God is so mightily at work in the midst of spiritual and physical need and opportunity.  They always go together.  Great needs present us with great opportunity to minister in Christ’s Name.

The last of August and first of September, I spent 3 weeks of travel and ministry in Africa.  This time in Ghana, Ethiopia, Uganda, Sudan and Kenya—which I will soon report on in segments.  Then almost immediately I left for 10 days of travel and ministry in both Haiti and Freeport, Bahamas.  And since I leave for Haiti again this Friday, that impoverished and storm-ravished country will be the focus of this brief report.
