Dr. J. L. Williams
Professor-at-Large
Director of the Center for World Missions
After retiring from being CEO of New Directions International and turning over the leadership to my son, Joseph, I have accepted a professorship at the Carolina Evangelical Divinity School (CEDS). Because my good friend and long-time associate, Dr. Bill Wilson, also teaches there, he has urged me for a number of years to join the faculty. He felt I had a lot to share about global missions from my more than 4 decades of travel, teaching, preaching and mentoring. However, I knew that my priority and passion was not in an academic classroom but "in the field" and out on the "cutting edge" of what God was doing around the world -- especially among the unreached and underreached. So I knew I could not be both on location and in the itineracy at the same time. But Dr. Frank Scurry, President of CEDS, graciously created a special position that fit my calling. As you can see, he has given me the title of "Professor-at-Large," which means I can continue to travel and teach. Therefore, like John Wesley I can still say: "The world is my parrish!"
However, in my new capacity I will teach at least one concentrated course a year at the CEDS Campus in Greensboro. This is a required class entitled "Creating a Global Vision in the Local Church." The class dates are June 1 - 4, 2010. Future courses will be announced on this new special "CEDS Page" on my web site. For further information about CEDS, please write or email:

I am also excited to announce that I plan to teach a course each month beginning in September, 2010 - May, 2011. These will be taught locally in Burlington from a Sunday night through Friday night. Non academic Certificates will be provided through CEDS for those who desire them. However, anyone and everyone will be invited to sit in on these Bible Studies at no cost. I will announce the monthly dates soon so that you can plan to attend and invite your friends.
Since I will be teaching only one week a month locally, I will still continue my domestic and international travel and ministry the other weeks -- just like I have done for the past 4 decades. Thanks so much for your love, prayers and support for this "new direction" in my life and ministry.
Finally, please take a moment to read the attached letter from my dear friend and associate, Dr. Bill Wilson, about our years of friendship and partnership. He has been one of my primary mentors for over 3 decades whose spiritual and psychiatric wisdom have taught me so much.
In His Faithful Love,
Dr. J.L. Williams
